Welcome! At Empower Learning Center, LLC, we partner with schools and educators to strengthen literacy instruction by making the structure of language visible and meaningful for students.
Our work focuses on connecting the powerful relationships among morphology, spelling, vocabulary, reading fluency, and comprehension. When students understand how words are built and how they carry meaning across disciplines, they gain dynamic tools that support learning in every subject. Through professional development, coaching, and collaborative inquiry, we help educators integrate literacy instruction into science, social studies, mathematics, and literature, ensuring that academic vocabulary and word knowledge become central to classroom learning. With extensive experience in Structured Word Inquiry, dyslexia-informed instruction, and special education, we support teachers in designing lessons that are explicit, knowledge-rich, and accessible for all types of learners. Together, we can build classrooms where word knowledge fuels curiosity, comprehension, and confident readers and writers.

about me
For more than three decades, I have worked in education helping students and educators deepen their understanding of language and literacy. My work focuses on how spelling, morphology, vocabulary, and reading comprehension are interconnected, and how understanding the structure of language empowers both teachers and students.
I specialize in Structured Word Inquiry and morphology-based literacy instruction, helping educators move beyond memorization toward investigating how words are built and how spelling represents meaning. When students learn how words work—how they are structured, how they carry meaning, and how they connect across subjects—they develop stronger reading comprehension, spelling, and academic vocabulary.
My professional background includes work in general education, special education, literacy leadership, and teacher professional learning. I have served as a department chair for special education and MTSS teams and have extensive experience supporting diverse learners, including students with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences.
I am also the author of Vocabulary & Morphology Using Structured Word Inquiry, which supports educators in bringing morphological inquiry and vocabulary learning into everyday instruction.
Through consulting, professional development, and collaborative work with schools, my goal is to help educators build coherent, knowledge-rich literacy practices that integrate reading, spelling, and vocabulary across all subject areas.
I believe that when teachers understand the structure of language, they gain powerful tools to help students become confident readers, writers, and thinkers.
